The Wake - Here Comes Everybody [FBN 35 CD]
The Wake - Here Comes Everybody [FBN 35 CD]

'Here Comes Everybody', the 1985 album by acclaimed Factory band The Wake, will be re-released in a special remastered double disc 30th anniversary CD edition by Factory Benelux on 4 May 2015. Comprising the entire original album plus time-appropriate singles Talk About The Past and Of The Matter, radio session tracks, the Something That No-One Else Could Bring E.P. and seven (count 'em) unreleased demos from 1988-90 this is indeed a very special package.

And that's not all pop-pickers...

Captured Tracks, the specialist boutique vinyl re-releasers, will be putting out a double vinyl edition very soon and the Sarah Records back catalogue is also set for long-overdue re-release later in the year.

Enjoy!

The Wake - Clouds Disco [FBN 94]
The Wake - Clouds Disco [FBN 94]

The brand new single by The Wake is Clouds Disco b/w The Sun Is a Star which will come in a special limited edition of 500 vinyl 7" on Record Store Day 2015 (18 April) via Factory Benelux.

Clouds Disco is taken from last year's Testament 'best of' and was produced by the group with Ian Catt (St Etienne, Field Mice).

"These recordings were made during sessions for the A Light Far Out album," says singer/guitarist Caesar. "Clouds Disco is about the burgeoning Glasgow music scene of the early 1980s and our perceived place within it. The idea was to capture a little bit of the atmosphere of the time for the present day, rather than be nostalgic. Clouds Disco was an actual venue, later renamed Satellite City, which in turn became the title of an early Orange Juice song."

B-Side The Sun Is a Star is exclusive to this 7" single, and will not be made available elsewhere.

The cover art for FBN 94 is based on an original design by Peter Saville for an unreleased Factory cassette box edition of Here Comes Everybody.

Crispy Ambulance - Compulsion [FBN 54]
Crispy Ambulance - Compulsion [FBN 54]

Factory Benelux will release a new studio album by Crispy Ambulance on 18 April, Record Store Day 2015. 'Compulsion' (FBN 54) will be a limited edition of 500 vinyl copies and there'll be a free digital download version with each copy.

In many respects Compulsion is the second album Crispy Ambulance might have recorded in 1982 after the release of The Plateau Phase, with six of the eight tracks written and performed live at that time. To these are now added Rain Without Clouds, an outtake from The Plateau Phase newly restored from the original multitrack masters, and WMTP.2 with added synth lines by producer-cum fifth member Graham Massey, of 808 State and Biting Tongues.

Almost uniquely, Crispy Ambulance has retained the same line-up since the group was originally founded in 1978: Alan Hempsall (vocals, keyboards), Gary Madeley (drums), Robert Davenport (guitars), Keith Darbyshire (bass).

"There's a sense of feeling compelled by irresistible forces," explains Alan Hempsall. "Compulsion is an apt way to describe our constant urge to go back and make music with people we've known since childhood. While the world may have changed, our music continues to be the product of the same influences - the passing of time, the changing of the seasons, the content of our sleeping dreams, and the existence of space."

Cover art by Peter Staessens. The package also features a free digital download of the album.

Tracklisting

A1. Rainforest Ritual
A2. Say Shake
A3. Nightfall Ends the Ceasefire
A4. At the Sounding of the Klaxon

B1. WMTP.2
B2. Rain Without Clouds
B3. Lucifer Rising
B4. Open, Gates of Fire

A Young Man's Dream Of Revolution

In the wake of his surprise appearance at the recent Martin Hannett event in Manchester, we catch up with Kevin Hewick's upcoming live and recorded activity.

Brittle Heaven have released a new 4CD box set of The Sound featuring their three classic albums for Warner Brothers and their BBC sessions plus my songs recorded with them for the 1984 'Reality/Unreal' 12-inch EP on Cherry Red, including 'Plenty', the 1981 original of which was turned down by Tony Wilson because he said he wouldn't have "any Southern bands on Factory".

Kevin is one of many artists and associates interviewed on the new Martin Hannett documentary DVD by Chris and Tom Hewitt. Kev also had the honour of being the opening act on the Martin Hannett - The Redemption night at Manchester Gorilla on 10 April 2014.

Two Headed Snake Productions have made a video for 'A Young Man's Dream Of Revolution' from the 'The Heat Of Molten Diamonds' album. It was filmed on location in Leicester in Clarendon Park, on London Road and at The Exchange shopping precinct in Eyres Monsell days before it's partial demolition. Noam Chomsky makes a special guest appearance.

Section 25 Reflection (Young Image) 7FBN53
Section 25 - Reflection (Young Image) 7 FBN 53

It's another Record Store Day limited edition vinyl single release for Section 25 in the form of Reflection (Young Image) which will be released on 19 April 2014 via Factory Benelux (on the same day the band play The Ruby Lounge with Crispy Ambulance).

There will be only 500 copies on orange vinyl complete with exclusive b-side Change. The a-side is taken from the forthcoming release From The Hip (30th Anniversary Edition) and is a reworking of the track from side one of the original 1984 album.

SXXV's Beth Cassidy says: "On first listening Reflection is a whimsical yet heartfelt expression of true love," says Beth Cassidy. "But strip this back and we discover an inner core which explores the surreal nature of life itself. Even after 30 years there are layers to this song that conceal its true meaning."

Art direction is based on Peter Saville's original designs for classic 1984 club single Looking From A Hilltop (FAC 108).

Record Store Day 2014 will be the 7th annual celebration of independent record shops in the UK.

A Vinyl Paean To Wilson
A Paean To Wilson

Kooky Records has confirmed details of its Record Store Day release for 2013 - A Paean To Wilson by The Durutti Column.

Over to Phil Kooky for the full description:

"It is pressed on 2 x 180gram vinyl discs, remastered and gently coaxed since the CD release in 2009.
The main alteration is the omission of the 'hidden track wind noise' at the end of the album; to bring timings in within the limits of four sides!

Artwork has been restructured by Trevor Johnson and the album also contains the following:

a) A free download code with every copy.
b) A copy of the original folded poster programme from the MIF show.
c) A postcard - using the cover image of Tony Wilson and Vini sat at the piano, with information on the flip side.

Both these physical artefacts ( b) and c) ) will be packed in a black envelope foil block stamped and inserted in the album before shrink wrapping.

Pressing :- There are exactly 497 copies one run only
Availability :- Released 20th April 2013 for Record Store Day*

* Please note - This means that it will only be sold through record shops primarily to support our independent retailers.

It will retail at £26.00.

However... Should there be any remaining stock, it will be sold here at Kooky and I will be putting the relevant details here (i.e. via kookydisc.co.uk)."
