Paranoid London, the production duo comprising Gerardo Delgado and Quinn Whalley, have released their second album 'PL' via their own Paranoid London Records on 30 August 2019.

The Factory connections come from Simon Topping (ex-A Certain Ratio) who provides vocals on track 8 'Cult Hero (Do You Wanna Touch Me)' and there's also a guest slot for Arthur Baker (famously noted for his production skills working with New Order and also worked with Anna Domino) on track 5 'Angel Hell' which also features Alan Vega.

Factory Benelux and New Order present Of Factory New York, a unique benefit album released to assist Michael Shamberg, who ran the NYC office of Factory Records during the celebrated label's Eighties heyday.

Available on CD and double gatefold vinyl formats, Of Factory New York gathers a selection of classic tracks by artists associated with OFNY including the John Robie remix of Yashar by Cabaret Voltaire, Do the Du by A Certain Ratio, Cool As Ice by 52nd Street, Love Tempo by Quando Quango, the Megamix version of Looking From A Hilltop by Section 25 and an exclusive version of Your Silent Face by New Order, recorded live on tour in America in June 1989.

Homegrown American talent featured on the album includes Ike Yard, Thick Pigeon, Konk, Anna Domino and deejay/producer Arthur Baker. The cover art is based on an original 1983 design by Lawrence Weiner, the conceptual artist closely associated with Shamberg and Factory's Big Apple operation.

Unfortunately in 2006 Michael was struck down with highly debilitating mitochondrial disease. All artists featured on Of Factory New York have donated their work free of charge, Factory Benelux will take no profit, and 100% of net revenues will be paid over to the medical trust which takes care of Michael.

"Michael has been with us from the very start," explain New Order. "Initially he was in charge of Factory New York, then became creative producer for all our early videos. He brought our attention to the early works of directors such as Kathryn Bigelow, Gina Birch, Robert Breer, Peter Care, Phillipe Decouffle, Jonathan Demme, Robert Frank, Paula Greiff, Robert Longo, Bailie Walsh and William Wegman. Michael is very ill and needs constant medical attention. We want to help him, and played two fundraising shows in 2011. This new Factory New York compilation album will contribute further financial support towards Michael’s ongoing care."

From 7th to 10th November, London Electronic Arts Festival (LEAF for short), founded by DJ and presenter Rob da Bank, will explore and showcase the heritage of electronic music and its impact on the arts both aurally and visually.

Concerts and appearances by the likes of Major Lazer, Trentemoller, William Orbit and The Bloody Beetroots will be supplemented by various other events including a series of interviews held with pioneers of electronica and dance-music.

As well as Giorgio Moroder and Dinos Chapman, there is a fascinating keynote interview with New Order planned for 8th November. Confusion, Touched By The Hand Of God and Thieves Like Us producer Arthur Baker will be asking selected members of the band about their Technique (FACT 275) album and its influence upon today's dance-music.

You can either buy a four-day delegate's pass to LEAF or simply purchase single event tickets for each talk, film or live gig staged across London.

A new digital download site containing all Man Ray and Freebass releases to date (including lesser known remixes by Arthur Baker and others) has launched at www.fac51thehacienda.com.

To celebrate, Man Ray's new EP, Tokyo Joe (HAC 006) is released today exclusively on the site. A version of this track was originally recorded for the opening of The Factory in February 2010 but this new version has been reworked with vocals and a selection of remixes completing the package.

The digital-only release schedule continues with The Light's debut EP, 1102/2011 on Monday 9 May. The tracks Atmosphere (with Rowetta on vocals) and the unreleased Joy Division track Pictures In My Mind will be given their first ever radio plays on Friday 29 April on BBC 6 Music's Radcliffe And Maconie Show.

Following 1102/2011 Hacienda Records will issue new material by new and established artists on the first Monday of each month starting with the This Tiny Universe EP by Humanizer on Monday 6 June and the Baum... / Titten EP by Richie G on Monday 4 July.

Colin Sharp, author of 'Who Killed Martin Hannett?' and regular contributor on the Cerysmatic Factory Message Board, writes about Tony Wilson's funeral:

It was a very well organised event that felt as though Tony himself had made the arrangements right down to the post modern, transparent plastic invites with a Fac-like number on them.

Those invited congregated at the Midland Hotel and it was clear from that point onwards that Tony’s two worlds - the day job at Granada and the passionate hobby that was Factory Records - were well represented. There were plenty of ageing Punk Rockers, post-punk conceptualists, younger artistes and many Media types, as well as family and friends.

At 1.30 everyone drifted to the Hidden Gem in the heart of Manchester. The press and public were kept back as the invited processed into the lovely old church. This was going to be a catholic requiem mass.

And indeed it was. Tony had returned to his childhood religion, which perhaps he had never really left ('once a catholic...') and at points it did seem somewhat incongruous, especially when the priest was trying to persuade us that Catholicism was the only true religion!

The eulogies were given by an Irish friend who spoke of Tony's childhood holidays in Ireland and his surrogate family; praise from Manchester City Council for Tony’s huge contribution to the cultural life of Greater Manchester; a moving, witty and sincere testament to Tony’s friendship from Richard Madeley and finally a laconic, dry, urbane and charming tribute from one of the few remaining partners of Factory Records - Peter Saville.

For me the most moving moment was when Tony’s coffin was carried off by the pall bearers who included Alan Erasmus and Tony's son Oliver, and Joy Division's epic, Hannett-produced meisterwerk - 'Atmosphere' - played with those prescient, poignant lyrics -

"Don't walk away... in Silence".

And the rest is Silence.

Tony Wilson was buried in Southern Cemetery - to the left as Rob is to the right (correct in religio-football terms). The coffin was numbered. FAC 501. The last catalogue number. So it goes.

The wake was held at One Central Street in Manchester City Centre. Jon DaSilva DJ'd with Arthur Baker.

Someone remembered that Hooky pointed at Wilson at Rob Gretton's memorial 'And You Forgotten' and said "Who's next? You! Nah, we all know it's fucking Tony Wilson don't we!?", thus everyone avoided Hooky's gaze. Hooky pointed out that the invite-only memorial was "pretty boring" compared to Rob's free-for-all. Others bemoaned the use of 'Atmosphere' when Wilson had wanted 'Ceremony'.

Peter Hook is to play another of his increasingly frequent DJ sets at the Elysee Montmartre in Paris on 4 November 2005. The event, titled 'Panik' is part of "Festival des Inrockuptibles" (named after the famous French magazine). Hooky and Arthur Baker will play alongside Isolee and Sylvie Marks (B-Pitch control).

On Sunday 22 August 2004 Happy Mondays will take to the stage for a very special live performance on a lazy, sun-drenched Sunday afternoon on Clapham Common, London. Tickets have just gone on sale and will sell out almost immediately.

Shaun Ryder, June 2004: "For me this is about putting something back in. I've been working with Get Loaded and Kav for some time now and when the lads came up with the idea and said we'd be pushing loads of new bands as well, it just seem only right to be involved. I'm not dealing with corporate's here, I'm dealing with a group of lads who just wanna make something happen!"

Get Loaded In The Park is "as much about supporting new bands, ideas and concepts as it is about putting on The Mondays". Get Loaded promoter Kav explains this philosophy: "It's about giving new talent the chance to shine through - bands that possibly haven't had the opportunities, the money or the backing in the past to showcase their talents to a wider audience. The New Order single Confusion was the result of an extraordinary collaboration bringing together the opposing temperaments represented by New Order's methodical pursuit of excellence and Baker's poltergeist spirit. Though it began as an uneasy experiment, New Order rose to the challenge of working at speeds and in conditions unknown to them.

In this classic NME interview with New Order from 1983 the band explain how Confusion came about.

"It's the only time we ever sat down to write," recalls bassist Peter Hook with a shudder. "And God, was it hard! Arthur Baker just stood there staring at us, sort of going, 'go on, write something', and we were walking around in circles thinking, 'fucking hell, isn't it time to go home yet?' We don't normally work well under pressure."

"He'd start a drum machine off and send one of us in saying, 'have a go on that synthesiser'," expands guitarist Bernard Albrecht (née Dicken, now Sumner). "See what you can come up with. So you're standing there thinking 'what the fucking hell am I doing?' You'd do something and he'd go, 'that's alright', turn off the drum machine, start the tape rolling and say, 'right play it again'. And even though there'd be a minute's worth of mistakes in it, he'd just say, 'Fuck it. It's alright'.

"The one thing he doesn't like about English records, he told us, is they're too neat and clean. And I agree."
