Scream City 3 was published in June 2007, one year after the second issue. I discovered that making fanzines is not an easy thing to do and gradually the gaps between issues got longer and longer. This was the one with the seventies porno cover and so the use of Alba Super for the title and inside cover contents page seemed de rigueur. This was probably the most eclectic issue in terms of content as there was no overall theme, save for two articles about the archives at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester (which, back then, was known as the Museum of Science and Industry or MoSI). Regular contributor Andrew James and Jan Hargreaves (now Hicks) from the Museum itself explained two different sides of the Factory archives.

David Nolan presented an extracted from his then forthcoming 'Confusion' biography of New Order's Bernard Sumner and Aloysius Munn (aka Ian McCartney) talked to Ian White of The Wendys. Michael Eastwood gave us two articles about Fac 51 The Haçienda - one on the long-lost Haçienda Classics album and another, 'Ghosts of the Haçienda' which celebrated the early years and coincided with an event at One Central under the same title.

Matthew Robertson critiqued the graphic design used by Electronic for their three main albums, David Nolan talked to Crispy Ambulance's Alan Hempsall and I snagged the cover story with the slightly suggestive title 'A Cock and Balls Story'. Whilst refreshing my memory of this last article I found an archived email with the title 'Tony Wilson's Cock and Balls'. Fortunately the article is not as puerile as the title suggests.

As announced way back in 2013, Bernard Sumner's autobiography finally has a publication date of 28 August 2014. The full title is 'Chapter and Verse [New Order, Joy Division and Me] and is on Bantam Press.

Barney said at the time: "Joy Division and New Order have both left quite a legacy but up until now I've been happy to let the music speak for itself. Somehow it feels like the right time to give my personal perspective both on my own life story and the many bands I've been in."

Factory Benelux has lined up a new album of remixes by Mark Reeder, the ex-Shark Vegas Berlin-based musician and producer. Featuring his work for a varied selection of artists including Blank & Jones, Bad Lieutenant, Westbam, Koishii & Hush, Marnie, Sam Taylor Wood / Pet Shop Boys and Crépuscule act Marsheaux, the aptly-titled Collaborator is out on CD on 19 May 2014.

Several tracks reflect Reeder's early influence on the electronic/dance direction taken by New Order after 1981 given that they feature his friend Bernard Sumner. There's two Bad Lieutenant singles Sink Or Swim and Twist of Fate, plus tracks by Westbam, Blank & Jones and Corvin Dalek (this last one intriguingly being an early version of Crystal). Completing the connection, Sumner also produced You Hurt Me by Shark Vegas which appears here in its Radio Edit version. The FAC number for that single, 111, provides the FBN number for this album.

Completing the overall package there's great cover photography is by Katja Ruge.

Section 25's From The Hip 30th anniversary edition will be released by Factory Benelux on 5 May 2014. The album which was originally released as FACT 90 in 1984 and which marked a turn towards pioneering electronica for the Blackpool band. Produced by New Order's Bernard Sumner and replete with Peter Saville's iconic coded imagery and Trevor Key's photography it is a landmark of the Factory Records history.

The new FBN edition is a digipack which presents the full album, remixes including the seminal Looking From A Hilltop (Megamix), a BBC radio session, b-sides, demos and a new recording of Reflection by the current line-up. Rounding it all of are liner notes to which Vin Cassidy and Jon Savage contribute.

Chris Manecke of Abecedarians gives a rare interview on a show from the 55 Shades of Blue KXLU radio archives (streamed via Soundcloud) in which he talks about recording Smiling Monarchs / Benway's Carnival (FAC 117) for Factory Records in the early Eighties.

The episode, from 2012, also features a play of the original demo mix of Smiling Monarchs before it was remixed by Bernard Sumner (Be Music) and Donald Johnson (DOJO).

At Twilight is a new 2CD compilation of singles and album tracks recorded by Paul Haig for Les Disques du Crépuscule which were variously produced by Alan Rankine, Cabaret Voltaire, Bernard Sumner, Mantronik, Lil Louis, Alex Sadkin and Man Parrish and it's out via Crépuscule on 20 January 2014.

The second CD includes all nine tracks from the lost Alan Rankine-produced second studio album from 1984 which has never before been released in its complete form. Plus it also includes 'The Executioner', the unreleased collaboration between Cabaret Voltaire and Paul Haig which was originally planned for release on Factory Benelux (FBN 47/48).

It all comes packaged with a cover portrait by Charles Van Hoorick and the liner booklet includes archive images and track-by-track commentary by Paul Haig.

Review by moist of the recent Manchester Cathedral gig by Peter Hook and the Light:

Two church visits in one day! One a funeral, one a celebration - both chances to remember old friends.

Unlike The Light's earlier Joy Division Reduxes, this one was never going to be easy - charting the transition between the first two New Order albums: Movement to PC&L, Curtis to Sumner, live to 'sequence'.

But Hooky's band manage to pull it off again with a vocal strength that belies the obvious range difference twixt Sumner and Hook, a stunning guitar prowess that was never there in the original live event, a subtle interplay between the duelling basses (funny - I seem to remember nowt but complaints from Hooky the producer/engineer when faced with two bass players!) and the overall confidence of a well-toured, bedded-in backline.

Perhaps it was time, place and occasion (or old age) but I found myself revisiting not the studio recordings of these classic albums but all those live occasions related to them: gigs attended - Squat, Comanche, Ritz, Brum; tapes collected - Tiffany's, Utrecht (or was it Amsterdam); videos watched - Glastonbury 81, BBC 84; Sessions heard - Peel 81 & 2.

Then I realised what was missing then and is present in abundance now: Enthusiasm. From everyone. Finally.

Factory Records Ltd (the resurrected imprint via LTM) releases a new double vinyl edition of Section 25's 1984 landmark album From The Hip on 28 May. The album, produced by Bernard Sumner, combined smooth synthpop with seamless electro beats. This new version features digitally re-mastered audio, with the original FACT 90 album on a single LP plus a bonus 12" single with two versions of seminal single FAC 108 Looking From A Hilltop. The 8-minute proto-techno Megamix version was edited and mixed by Sumner and Donald Johnson of ACR, and later sampled by both Orbital and The Shamen. The flip features Stephen Morris's (New Order/The Other Two) 2010 remix.

Peter Saville has 'digitally remastered' his original cover design with help from Matthew Robertson and Idea Digital.

Although original vocalists Larry and Jenny Cassidy have sadly passed away, Section 25 continue to perform and record in 2012 with work on a new album ongoing. Fronted by founder member Vin Cassidy, along with Beth Cassidy (daughter of Larry and Jenny) on vocals and keyboards they are joined by Steven Stringer on guitar and keyboards & Stuart Hill on keyboards. London charity Centrepoint are releasing an album of sixties cover versions to mark their fortieth anniversary.

1969: Key to Change features contributions by Ian Brown, Johnny Marr, and a version of Elvis Presley's In The Ghetto by Bad Lieutenant.

LTM re-release the first album by Miami electro duo The Beat Club on remastered 15-track CD on 2 June 2010. The Beat Club are best known for their club smash Security released in 1989 on Robs Records and featuring vocals by New Order's Bernard Sumner.

Originally issued by Electrobeat in 1994, Paris includes the singles Security, Dreams Were Made to be Broken, X and Transamerica, on which Ony Rodriguez and Mireya Valls cover a variety of styles including electro, trance, Miami Bass and synth pop. The Robs Records connection is furthered with the inclusion of bonus remixes by Martin Moscrop of A Certain Ratio and Bernard Sumner.

The New Order single Confusion was the result of an extraordinary collaboration bringing together the opposing temperaments represented by New Order's methodical pursuit of excellence and Baker's poltergeist spirit. Though it began as an uneasy experiment, New Order rose to the challenge of working at speeds and in conditions unknown to them.

In this classic NME interview with New Order from 1983 the band explain how Confusion came about.

"It's the only time we ever sat down to write," recalls bassist Peter Hook with a shudder. "And God, was it hard! Arthur Baker just stood there staring at us, sort of going, 'go on, write something', and we were walking around in circles thinking, 'fucking hell, isn't it time to go home yet?' We don't normally work well under pressure."

"He'd start a drum machine off and send one of us in saying, 'have a go on that synthesiser'," expands guitarist Bernard Albrecht (née Dicken, now Sumner). "See what you can come up with. So you're standing there thinking 'what the fucking hell am I doing?' You'd do something and he'd go, 'that's alright', turn off the drum machine, start the tape rolling and say, 'right play it again'. And even though there'd be a minute's worth of mistakes in it, he'd just say, 'Fuck it. It's alright'.

"The one thing he doesn't like about English records, he told us, is they're too neat and clean. And I agree."
