Matthew Robertson, the author of the Fac 461 Factory Records - The Complete Graphic Album will be in conversation with Pete Mitchell at The Modernist Society in Manchester on Wednesday 18 December 2019 from 18:30 to 20:00. This event follows on from the sell-out Trevor and Craig Johnson event set up to coincide with the Praxis XL exhibition which runs until 23 December 2019.

Factory fans will know that Matthew’s book painstakingly researched and beautifully illustrated book covers much of Factory's design output and serves as an essential guide. Many of the images in the Praxis exhibition were courtesy of Matthew and he is sure to have many insights into Factory's catalogue. Copies of the book will available in the shop and Matthew will be available to sign them for you.

To coincide with the Use Hearing Protection: FAC 1 – 50 / 40 exhibition on at Chelsea Space until 26 October 2019, co-founder and art director of Factory Records, Peter Saville, will be in conversation with exhibition co-curator Jon Savage at the Clore Gallery in Tate Britain on 22 October 2019 from 19:00 until 21:00.

Following the talk, there will be a very special screening of rare footage of Joy Division playing live at the Apollo Theatre, Manchester filmed by Richard Boon during the Buzzcocks' 1979 tour. Some of the footage can be seen on the Fact 27 'Here Are The Young Men' video which, of course, is on display in the exhibition.

This will be very much a double-header because Stephen's recent autobiography 'Record Play Pause: Confessions of a Post-Punk Percussionist (Volume 1)', and Dave's new book 'We the Youth: Keith Haring's New York Nightlife' - will be available to buy on the night and there will be a signing session with both of them.

4th June 1976. Four young men took to the stage of the Lesser Free Trade Hall in Manchester. The noise they made changed everything...

Forty-three years ago the Sex Pistols performed on television for the very first time - on TV's So It Goes show. To mark the anniversary, author and TV producer David Nolan will be here to talk about his documentary and book 'I Swear I Was There'. It tells the tale of the Pistols' two legendary performances at Manchester's Lesser Free Trade in 1976, plus their notorious Granada appearance. GQ Magazine called David's subsequent book version of I Swear "one of the greatest rock stories ever told".

The 2001 Granada TV documentary will be shown in full at the Walthamstow Rock 'n' Roll Book Club in London on Thursday 19 September 2019. This will be its first airing in nearly 20 years. David will also be talking about the documentary and book (and he might also slip in a mention his recent Manc noir novel 'Black Moss').

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the passing of Tony Wilson, Walthamstow Rock n Roll Book Club present 'Tony Wilson - What was and will be' at Mirth, Marvel and Maud in Walthamstow, London E17 on Thursday 10 August 2017.

More MDMArchive action, this time it's Richard Boon live onstage in conversation with Dave Haslam at Gorilla, Manchester on Thursday 13 February 2014.

Richard Boon isn't just an important eye-witness to Manchester's music scene, but also a major player and an influential figure, with the inside story of one of the most glorious eras of Manchester music.

He was the Buzzcocks' manager who founded New Hormones, the UK's first punk / post-punk independent record label and helped run the Beach Club.

New Hormones was an inspiration to later labels like Factory Records, and released records by artists including Biting Tongues, Dislocation Dance, Ludus and Eric Random.

The New Hormones office at 50 Newton St was also the home of gig promoters Wise Moves and 'City Fun' fanzine.

This is a free event, with an audience Q&A included. It's a great opportunity to hear Richard Boon describing and discussing early Sex Pistols gigs; working with Malcolm McLaren, Buzzcocks, and Linder Sterling; and plotting and planning with Mark E Smith, Jon Savage and Morrissey.

'Noise Annoys – Early Punk in Manchester' is a punk film night and panel discussion hosted by photographer Kevin Cummins at Kraak in Stevenson Square, Manchester about the post-punk explosion in Manchester arising from the seminal Sex Pistols gigs at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester in 1976.

Kevin will welcome fanzine writer Steve Shy plus Denise Shaw and Dawn Bradbury to the event which will also feature a special screening of the Granada TV 'Brass Tacks' documentary film and a live set by Kill Pretty.

Peter Hook has announced a nationwide book signing and event tour to accompany the publication of his second book 'Unknown Pleasures: Inside Joy Division' on 1 October 2012. The tour (with some dates featuring talks/Q&A) includes Manchester, London, Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dublin.

In the book, Hooky will tell the story of Joy Division's friendships and fall-outs; their rehearsals and recording in the way that somewhere who was there can.
