XFM Manchester broadcast 'Heart & Soul: The Story of Ian Curtis and the Making of Control' on Sunday 7 October 2007, and it's was on XFM Scotland last night (8 October). Bernard, Hooky, and Stephen talked candidly and at times very movingly about Ian Curtis, the band, Ian's death, and their decision to form New Order.

Martin Moscrop (A Certain Ratio) talked about Factory and post-punk. Sam Riley talked about his role in 'Control'.

We are honoured that Bernard, Hooky and Stephen have all contributed to this radio documentary at length and in-depth; hear them talk about forming Joy Division, recording and gigging, and revealing exclusively their thoughts about Ian Curtis, his character, his genius, his inner turmoil and his tragic death. Alongside Martin Moscrop from A Certain Ratio, the team behind the film 'Control' are among the other contributors.

UNCUT magazine reports on January's press conference to launch the Ian Curtis biopic with the working title 'Control' in the March 2005 issue. In this brief extract Deborah Curtis comments on why it is finally happening now: "There was a time when I thought it would be better to just drop the whole idea and move on, but I'm confident I've found the right people to tell Ian's story. Joy Division still sound astonishingly relevant and I'm hopeful this will be the document that introduces more people to Ian and his life."

According to more rumours on Nool the "huge" star being lined up to play Ian Curtis in the forthcoming movie adaptation of Touching From A Distance is Jude Law.

According to this BBC Manchester News article a 'huge star' has been signed up to play Ian Curtis in the film of the Deborah Curtis book 'Touching From A Distance'. No real clues at the moment as to whom it might be though apparently some wags on Nool are jesting that it might be Samuel L. Jackson (!). We are assured it is an actor who "looks rather a lot like Ian" and that "he has just finished a couple of films in which the only thing he listened to was Joy Division and New Order".

More news on the Variety website of the as-yet-untitled Ian Curtis biopic project. Amy Hobby ('Secretary') and Neil Weisman (a long-time friend and associate of Tony Wilson) are developing the project, with Moby as musical co-ordinator.

In the article, Weisman says: "Ian Curtis was a tragic romantic in the classic sense of the word," Weisman said. "He always thought he would be famous as some kind of poet and die by his mid-20s, and that's what happened. I see this film as a kind of rock 'n' roll 'Shine.'"

The BBC news site is also carrying a similar article on the project. And you don't need to register to read this one in full as you do with Variety.

The film is expected to start shooting next year.

According to the Metro newspaper's 'Cannes Diary', Moby is "executive producer of a biopic about Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, who committed suicide in 1980. There's no script as yet but the musician's main role will be to oversee the soundtrack".

Moby has previously played Joy Division tracks in his live sets, most notably New Dawn Fades. There's no word on casting yet but time will tell whether Sean Harris, who played Ian in 24 Hour Party People to great acclaim will get the nod. As for a release date, May 2005 would be the 25th anniversary of Ian's death.
