Mauerstadt 30: Stories From The Berlin Wall @ YES 9 Nov 2019
Mauerstadt 30: Stories From The Berlin Wall @ YES 9 Nov 2019

Manchester Digital Music Archive presents Mauerstadt 30: Stories From The Berlin Wall with Mark Reeder on Saturday 9 November 2019 at YES in Manchester. The date is significant because it marks 30 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. This free event at YES commemorates the occasion with an afternoon of live music, conversation and film, as part of the HOMOBLOC festival.

Manchester-born, Berlin-based producer, filmmaker and cultural catalyst Mark Reeder (Shark Vegas, B-Movie: Lust & Sound in West-Berlin 1979-1989) talks to Dr Beate Peter about Berlin's underground music scenes in the years leading up to the fall of the Wall, and how he risked his freedom to bring punk to the East.

Queer curator, DJ and co-founder of Manchester Digital Music Archive, Abigail Ward, debuts new live material in response to the theme of the Berlin Wall, with percussionist Howard Jacobs (808 State/Architects of Rosslyn) and synth torturer Mandy Wigby (Sisters of Transistors / Architects of Rosslyn).

Toast of London's queer underground, DJ Wes Baggaley (Fabric, NYC Downlow, Robert Johnson) and producer extraordinaire Margo Broom (Fat White Family, Meatraffle, Big Joanie) play a set of exclusive electronic music inspired by the Berlin Wall.

Free tickets available now via
Eventbrite.

B-Movie: Lust & Sound in West-Berlin

B-Movie - Lust & Sound in West-Berlin (1979-1989) - Official Trailer from scenes from on Vimeo.

The documentary film 'B-Movie: Lust & Sound in West-Berlin' featuring Mark Reeder who also made the soundtrack for is finished and is being shown five time at the Berlinale film festival.

Komakino by Joy Division is included on the film soundtrack. Reeder also made a 5.1 surround mix of it as well as for all the other songs in the film, including Neubauten, Malaria!, Die Unbekanten and Anne Clark.

Mark says "as we only had the original stereo tracks to go on, it took us ages to do, having to filter, slice and then reconstruct everything back together to sound like the original, but in 5.1."

Mark Reeder - Collaborator [FBN 111 CD]
Mark Reeder - Collaborator [FBN 111 CD]

Factory Benelux has lined up a new album of remixes by Mark Reeder, the ex-Shark Vegas Berlin-based musician and producer. Smokin'
Mark Reeder's been very busy of late, what with his remix with Micha Adam of the Blank & Jones track Miracle Cure (with Bernard Sumner on vocals) and much more besides.

Mark now brings Cerysmatic up to date with the very latest:

"A different mix [of Miracle Cure] will appear on a B&J remixes album we've made, for release in spring of 2009. Also I've just remixed the new Pet Shop Boys/Sam Taylor-Wood single on KOMPAKT records I'm In Love With a German Film Star - it's the Rundfunk Radio Mix which is only on the 7" single.

"I also have made the Stuck in the 80s Remix on the 12-inch and CD single and a Rias Radio Mix version, which is not on any record and is only for radio play.

"Also coming soon are two tracks that I've remixed for Anne Clark (Full Moon and If...) off her new album."

21st Century Music
Mark Reeder (ex-Shark Vegas) tells Cerysmatic has written a new track with Bernard Sumner. Mark says "It's too early days yet to see what will eventually happen with it and it doesn't even have lyrics or a title yet".

Mark has also produced the latest Fidelity Kastrow track '21st Century Girl' which can be heard on myspace.com/fidelitykastrowmusic. This was chosen to be the anthem of this year's Summer of Love festival in the Czech Republic (where she is also performing on 16 August 2008.

Finally, and perhaps most tantalisingly, there's the remix that Mark has just finished for the new Pet Shop Boys / Sam Taylor-Wood single 'I'm In Love With A German Filmstar' (a cover of the old 80s hit by The Passions). The single will be released on CD and MP3 on the German Kompakt label in October to coincide with Sam Taylor-Wood's new exhibition at the White Cube gallery in London which opens on 22 October 2008.

Thanks to Mark. Keep it cool over there in Berlin.
