"April sees the release of a free exhibition poster giveaway for Ed Templeton's museum survey The Cemetery of Reason. This is the official exhibition poster for Ed's first large scale solo museum retrospective. The Cemetery of Reason is conceived as a mid-career survey of the American artist Ed Templeton, assembling clusters of images of the photos, paintings and sculptures he has executed over the last fifteen years. The exhibition tells the story of a pro skateboarder, a photographer, a draftsman, a painter, etc. A story which, although it focuses on his own life and those of the people around him, transcends the autobiographical and exposes social and societal phenomena unhesitatingly but without pointing a finger."

The official poster is effectively being given away for the princely sum of 0.01 USD (plus p+p).

It was recently announced that the historic Manchester upstairs/downstairs club combo Jilly's and Rockworld have closed for good, with John Bagnall - owner of the clubs since 1981 - going into liquidation.

The venue originally opened as a true 'chicken-in-a-basket' variety/music clubs Fagins (upstairs) and Rafters (downstairs) during the sixties and seventies.

With resident DJ Rob Gretton the sticky carpet venues ran late-seventies punk and new wave gigs, eventually hosting the Alan Wise-produced post-Russell, pre-Hacienda Factory Club during the early eighties.

Fond memories include Fad Gadget climbing the Rafters, the four comrades sat round a table in silence that suddenly alighted to the stage and became DAF, the Hook/Mason promoted IKON Video supported by Stockholm Monsters, The Birthday Party's first drunken gig, and who could forget the infamous Slim/Pete Murphy onstage stand-off!

Jez Kerr, Simon Topping and Peter Terrell, collectively known as (at least for the time being) as Sum Ratios will play their debut gig at The Factory in Manchester on Wednesday 19 May 2010. Please note that this is a new date which replaces the one previously announced for 12 May.

The performance by Sum Ratios will form part of a multimedia experience featuring bands, poets, short films and DJ Graham Massey.

The first of seven FAC 51 Hacienda Limited Edition Bass Guitars, as first announced here, has rolled off the production line at Brian Eastwood Guitars and will be used by Hooky when he and The Light (rumoured to feature Crispy Ambulance's Alan Hempsall on vocals) perform Unknown Pleasures at The Factory on 18 May 2010.

The photos (courtesy Chris Hewitt) show how the pieces of Hacienda dance floor have been integrated into the neck of the bass.

Blanka, the online gallery and permanent visual archive, has produced a special Manchester Poster Set designed by Wallzo. The unique, dual-layer piece features Kevin Cummins's iconic photograph of Morrissey on the Rochdale Canal which adorns the front cover of his book Manchester: Looking for the Light through the Pouring Rain.

The A1-size poster is printed on 170gsm PhoeniXmotion stock and is overlaid with a top sheet featuring a quote by Chris Lethbridge, printed in blue and white ink on GF Smith Transclear semi-opaque stock. Each set is signed by Kevin Cummins.

Peter Care's controversial short film, Johnny YesNo, was made in 1979. Its original soundtrack, recorded and produced by Cabaret Voltaire, was released as an album two years later [a VHS video was released on Of Factory New York video offshoot Doublevision as DV3].

This year, Mute will be releasing a box set, of film and music, comprising the original compilation , a re-imagining of the film, additional footage and bonus material, all featuring new remixes by Richard H. Kirk. This will also be a special presentation of some of the new work.

This Friday 23 April there is a special screening with introduction by Ken Hollings and a Q&A at the Showroom Workstation in Sheffield. Tickets priced £4 are still available from Showroom Workstation.

LTM re-release the first album by Miami electro duo The Beat Club on remastered 15-track CD on 2 June 2010. The Beat Club are best known for their club smash Security released in 1989 on Robs Records and featuring vocals by New Order's Bernard Sumner.

Originally issued by Electrobeat in 1994, Paris includes the singles Security, Dreams Were Made to be Broken, X and Transamerica, on which Ony Rodriguez and Mireya Valls cover a variety of styles including electro, trance, Miami Bass and synth pop. The Robs Records connection is furthered with the inclusion of bonus remixes by Martin Moscrop of A Certain Ratio and Bernard Sumner.

The complete package includes 6 bonus tracks, new artwork, and a detailed biography.

Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields, a documentary film by Kerthy Fix and Gail O'Hara, is making the rounds of the film festival circuit in the US and overseas.

After its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival, the film has screened at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, the Florida Film Festival, and the Buenos Aires Festival of Independent Cinema.

The film will soon be screening at the Hot Docs festival in Toronto, the Independent Film Festival Boston, and at a special event at New York's Bell House. The Bell House screening, the official New York premiere, will be preceded by a live performance from the band's own Claudia Gonson.

The continued grounding of all flights in and out of the UK has forced Bad Lieutenant to cancel their USA tour. A statement from the band reads:

"Bad Lieutenant, scheduled to kick off their U.S. concert debut tomorrow night at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco, have been forced to cancel the date due to this morning’s volcanic eruption in Iceland that closed British airspace. The band members – Bernard Sumner, Phil Cunningham, Jake Evans, Stephen Morris and Tom Chapman – who all live in the UK, had been scheduled to travel today into San Francisco. When British airspace was closed this morning and all flights were cancelled, they were able to get last-minute bookings for tomorrow on a flight that would have put them into San Francisco late in the day; but just moments ago, American Airlines announced that that flight has also been cancelled.

"Bad Lieutenant is extremely disappointed in this bizarre turn of events as they had been very much looking forward to coming to the Bay Area. The band’s management is doing everything it can to make an alternative flight itinerary for the remaining dates.

"Refunds will be available for ticket holders at the point of purchase."

Classic England New Order song World in Motion is to be remade for Mars advert which will debut late May on television and, in a longer version, at marsbar.co.uk, reports Mark Sweney in The Guardian. The slightly amended lyrics include the line "Three Lions on our Mars".

According to the story, Mars is also launching a competition to give members of the public the chance to appear in the ad.

German photographer Katja Ruge exhibits her photo project fotoreportage23 – in search of ian curtis on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the death of Ian Curtis at the kulturreich Galerie in Hamburg, Germany.

The exhibition is based on the book of the same title with 23 locations and 23 portraits of friends, companions, and contemporary bands such as Mark E. Smith, Annik Honoré, Terry Mason, Bloc Party, José González, and Tony Wilson paired with their handwritten stories and personal thoughts about Ian Curtis and Joy Division.

A full associated programme of events in cooperation with the kulturreich Galerie, the Hamburger Fotobuchtagen and Hamburg's club scene will accompany the exhibition.

The Unknown Pleasures tour takes in theatres around the UK and features Peter Hook with Howard Marks in a spoken word, musical and Q&A based show that sees the duo open up about their rock and roll shenanigans and pasts. The tour starts on 11 April in Birmingham and runs until 2 May.

The latest instalment in LTM's compilation series Auteur Labels featuring cult American post-punk imprint Independent Project Records is released on 3 May 2010.

Founded by Bruce Licher of renowned experimental group Savage Republic in Los Angeles in 1980, IPR has released a raft of diverse records by groups as diverse as Camper Van Beethoven, For Against and Savage Republic themselves.

The Factory connection on this release comes from the inclusion of Benway's Carnival by Abecedarians which was the B-side of the debut 12" release FAC 117 Smiling Monarchs (which itself can be found on LTMCD 2534 Auteur Labels: Factory Records 1984.

The 78 minute remastered CD features 23 tracks, detailed label history and archive images.
